Our goals for 2020
We want to raise the awareness about prostate cancer so that
society is able to understand the key facts and act on that
knowledge. People affected by prostate cancer should have their
information and support needs addressed effectively. We also want
to develop the information available about diagnosis so that it is
more accessible.
We have already made progress in the following
areas:
1. Raising the profile of prostate cancer
- Our Pledge for Prostate Cancer
campaign has highlighted the need to reduce inequalities in
prostate cancer care with Westminster MPs and MSPs in Scotland
- We have been promoting Movember amongst MPs and MSPs
- We attended meetings with the health teams at each of
the three major Westminster political party conferences
- As part of the Health Hotel, we organised a fringe event at
every conference with Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer
Care
- On 21 January 2010 Daniel Kawczynski MP secured an adjournment
debate on prostate cancer to highlight the case of his
constituent. Read the debate
- In May 2010, following our Day of Action in March, John Leech
MP tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament raising concerns
that men receive inadequate support to help them cope with prostate
cancer. View the EDM
- We have also raised the profile of prostate cancer by
responding to government consultations. Read our responses
2. Improving the diagnosis of prostate cancer
- We have developed new ways of making information about the PSA
test more accessible to more men
- We are working with GPs to highlight every man's right to the
opportunity to make an informed choice about the PSA test
3. Supporting people living with prostate
cancer
- Our Day of Action highlighted to parliamentarians and
healthcare providers that too many men with prostate cancer are not
getting the support they need. Find out more
- Our Hampered by Hormones? campaign raised awareness of the
support and information needs of men on hormone therapy. Find out
