Birthday Celebrations

2009

Stephanie Jenkins, husband and children celebrating in styleIn July Stephanie Jenkins held a 50th birthday party and raised money for The Prostate Cancer Charity, she told us:

“It was a great party, the band were fantastic I think having live music helped to make the evening go with a swing with everyone up and dancing. We also had a DJ who certainly knew his 70's music. I was up all night dancing. I have to thank my Husband who organized the family on the night and dressed the room with balloons and table confetti. We placed blow up guitars around the room so that people who felt the need could join in with the band and play air guitar. It was a great way to raise a bit of money for a good cause. I would recommend it to anyone.”

Stephanie raised a fantastic £250.

In February David Ruback celebrated his 60th birthday and asked guests to give him donations instead of presents. A big thank you to David who raised a fantastic £1,805 for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

2008

Kate Beechey celebrated her 60th birthday by asking friends to give her donations in lieu of presents. Kate told us:

“I am delighted with the result and I am sending this in memory of my much loved uncle who died from prostate cancer.” Kate raised a fantastic £350.

David Brooker decided to get friends to give donations to him to pass on to a charity of his choice rather than give him gifts for his 60th birthday after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He raised a terrific £325 for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Michael Blackburn celebrated his 60th birthday in February 2008 and raised a brilliant £840.

David Scoggins told us how this year he decided he would ask for donations instead of presents for his birthday:

“This year I became 60 and my family gave me a party, I didn’t want any presents so as I have prostate cancer I requested donations for The Prostate Cancer Charity and we raised £500.” A big thank you to David.

Having been given a clean bill of health after being diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago, Peter Bradley decided to get donations instead of presents for his 60th birthday. Peter raised a fantastic £360.

Mervyn Lumley celebrated his 70th birthday in a local village hall on 2nd February 2008. During the party a raffle was held for The Prostate Cancer Charity and raised a terrific £230.

2007

Michael Ford celebrated his 60th birthday at South Herts golf club in December 2007. He told us that the party went exceptionally well. A big thank you to Michael who raised almost £2,000, which will go towards the work of The Prostate Cancer Charity.

2005

Martin celebrating his 60th in style Martin Freeman On 25 December 2005 I celebrated my 60th birthday. I decided to invite forty of my friends and family for a meal at my local Italian restaurant, Villa Bianca, in Hampstead, London.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2000 and decided I would like to support The Prostate Cancer Charity in a practical way by becoming a networker. On my 60th I didn’t want my friends to buy me presents (after all at 60 who needs another tie!) so I asked them to make donations to The Prostate Cancer Charity instead. They donated over £1,000. I’m sure people were more generous than they would have been had they bought presents and, as a result, the charity benefited from their generosity.
