Case Study: ROK
Rok, the Nation’s Local Builder, supported Prostate Cancer Awareness Week by circulating awareness information to staff across the country. A text message went out to 2,000 Rok employees announcing ‘This is Prostate Cancer Awareness Week. Look out for the posters and on the website for more information’ and some sites organised 'Blue for the Boys' dress down days to help raise vital funds for the Charity.
“In the construction industry there is a huge amount of importance placed on being aware of the dangers of working on site. However, we feel we also have a responsibility to support health campaigns that affect our workforce, and that is why we are handing out this information about prostate cancer. Early detection could save lives as some prostate cancers can be very aggressive. It is also important the message is spread to female staff so that they are also aware of the risks, signs and symptoms and can encourage their male partners, friends and family members to have regular health checks.”
Shaun Davis, Rok Safety, Health and Environment Director
Denise Bailey, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: “It’s fantastic that Rok has realised the importance of making more men aware of prostate cancer. This is a much neglected cause that we are keen to highlight during Prostate Cancer Awareness Week and Rok’s support is very much appreciated.”
