Fundraising
Why Donate?
Men with prostate cancer and their families urgently need you to help them cope with the most common cancer diagnosed in men. The charity relies almost totally on the generosity of our supporters who contribute over 97 per cent of our income. The support we receive from government is minimal, making every penny you give crucial.
Your support can help The Prostate Cancer Charity provide:
- Help for today through quality information, our national Helpline and specialist nurses in hospitals throughout the UK.
- Hope for tomorrow through scientific research into the causes, treatments and impact of prostate cancer.
Our Helpline, for example, needs nearly £300,000 each year to ensure that there are always specialist nurses ready to support anyone with concerns about prostate cancer. In the words of one man: "I felt totally lost and shell-shocked when I was told I had cancer. A friend advised me about The Prostate Cancer Charity Helpline. In my darkest days the nurses were a ray of light."
Our free information leaflets give clear, up-to-date and accurate advice to men with prostate cancer. But to support every man who needs our information costs nearly £200,000 every year. "If I hadn’t picked up one of The Prostate Cancer Charity’s leaflets, I would never have realised I had a problem. It saved my life."
Last year, we invested £1.5million in new research to look for better ways to understand, diagnose and treat prostate cancer. A typical, three-year research project costs around £180,000, but each one is crucial in our search to save the lives of thousands of men.
And every penny counts – from £1 to £1 million. Here are a few examples of how your money could help make a difference:
- £11 could pay for a Tool Kit, an information pack which is full of important answers for a newly-diagnosed man.
- £25 could pay for a specialist nurse to answer and follow up a telephone call from a man concerned about prostate health.
- £90 could pay for 2000 Helpline cards to raise awareness of the disease.
- £580 could pay for a specialist nurse to give men diagnosed with prostate cancer a week of support.
- £1,194 could fund a researcher looking for new treatments for one week
- £10,000 could help us fund one of our specialist prostate cancer nurses based in the community for four months.
How To Donate
We offer a variety of ways to show your support. You can make a one-off donation to our work or, to increase our long-term impact, you can pledge a monthly gift to the charity or give regularly through your company’s Payroll Giving scheme. Gifts in your will are also crucial to our future support of men with prostate cancer. They allow you to make a lasting difference and leave behind a legacy of hope for years to come.
Payroll giving is an effective and easy way for employees to support our charity. If your company is registered with a payroll giving agency, then you can make a regular donation direct from your pay, and it’s tax free. For example, a donation of £5 per month costs the basic rate tax payer £3.90.' Download a Payroll Giving form.
