In Scotland

Would you like to get involved in the Charity’s work in Scotland?

There is a range of ways to get involved with us and we will provide you with training and support to do this. Here are some examples of things you could do to help:

  • Give talks about prostate cancer and The Prostate Cancer Charity to local groups or clubs - for example Rotary, golf clubs, lunch clubs or in the workplace
  • Talk to groups of health professionals about your personal experience of prostate cancer
  • Attend local events with the Charity's information stand and literature
  • Provide one to one support to men with prostate cancer and their carers, by phone or face to face
  • Talk to the media
  • Organise fundraising events in your area or get involved in fundraising for the Charity

If you would like to become a volunteer with our Scotland services you can view our volunteering FAQs or download the application pack. Alternatively, if you would just like to find out more about getting involved, please get in touch:

Volunteering FAQs

How much time will I need to give?

We can be flexible about this. We don’t have a minimum requirement. It is likely that the amount of time will depend on what sort of role you decide to take on. Some roles are likely to be more active than others, but it would be up to you how much time you wanted to give, be it an occasional contribution or a regular commitment. One thing you have to make time for is training. Depending on the role you are interested in you will attend a minimum of two and a maximum of five days training.

How will I be supported by the Charity?

We would provide you with an initial training programme, all the materials you would need to carry out your role (for example we provide you with all the materials you need to give a talk), ongoing regular support from the project manager, contact with your fellow volunteers and regular refresher training so you will always be up to date. You will also be given standard volunteer expenses.

What skills and experience do I need to have?

We will provide you with full training and resources but generally we are looking for people with:

  • Experience of prostate cancer (personal, professional or family connection)
  • Good understanding of the needs and concerns of men with prostate cancer
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to participate in training events with other volunteers
  • Willingness to travel locally
  • Willingness to work within and represent the Charity’s policies on key issues

What will I get from joining The Prostate Cancer Charity’s volunteer network?

  • Interesting and rewarding opportunities to improve the lives of men with prostate cancer locally
  • A chance to use existing skills and to develop new ones
  • Up to date information on prostate cancer and prostate cancer treatments
  • An opportunity to meet new people

What do I do now?
