You may hear stories in the news about new medicines (also
called drugs) for treating prostate cancer. New medicines you may
have heard about include:
Cabazitaxel (Jetvana®). A new type of
chemotherapy treatment for men with prostate cancer that has spread
to other parts of the body (advanced prostate cancer) and
has stopped responding to hormone therapy and the chemotherapy
medicine docetaxel (Taxotere®).
Abiraterone (Zytiga®). A new type of hormone
therapy for men whose prostate cancer has spread to other parts of
the body (advanced prostate cancer) and
has stopped responding to other hormone therapy and chemotherapy
treatments.
These medicines are licensed for use in the UK but are not yet
widely available on the NHS.
