December 6th

A pill made from olive oil and herbs could dramatically reduce a man's chances of developing prostate cancer, according to a trial at Columbia University in the US. Read the story, and our response to it, at The Daily Mail.

December 1st

Patrick Barkham's diary in The Guardian mentions Kate Stewart, our Head of Media and Public Affairs:

"Kate Stewart of the Prostate Cancer Charity is in touch with another Christmas brainwave: not just "an utterly original and memorable game" but one "with an important health message for your man". In the round, it is the "novelty stocking filler to end all stocking fillers". Peeball. "A biodegradable powder ball that gradually disintegrates on contact with liquid." It's in aid of the charity, which doesn't go by the acronym PCC. "One person can play it alone. So can a team. Perfect entertainment at a party for men wanting a light-hearted way of extracting the urine (in other words, taking the p!*s)." No more, please."

November 23rd

John LewisThe Daily Mirror ran a large feature article about the most common killers of men, in part focusing on prostate cancer. Our Helpline Nurse, Georgia Diebel talked about the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer and prevention techniques. Also, John Lewis, one of our media talkers, who was also one of our heroic Great North Runners, talked about his experiences of prostate cancer surgery. November 19th

Chris HileyChris Hiley, our Head of Policy and Research, appeared on Sky News, along with Andy Ripley, to discuss the Ricky Gervais radio ad, current health policy, and prostate cancer awareness. You can see their appearance using Windows Media in either low quality (for dial-up users) or high quality (for broadband users).

The Times picked up the Taxotere decision, and our response to it, in their Men's Style section.

November 14th

The Telegraph took notice of our First National Survey, and drew attention to one of our most disturbing findings - the shocking way in which diagnoses are sometimes communicated to patients. You can read the article here.

Kate StewartKate Stewart, our Head of Media and Public Affairs, is today's Career Case Study in The Times. In the article, she talks about her decision to leave The Sun and work for us, the challenges of raising awareness of prostate cancer, and how rewarding her job is.



November 8th

The Scottish Taxotere decision continues to generate controversy and coverage. The Scotsman has picked up the story, as has HES Magazine.

November 7th

Our press release about the decision to withold the chemotherapy drug Taxotere in Scotland due to cost reasons was picked up by BBC News Online.

November 5th

The publication of our First National Survey has attracted a lot of press attention. BMJ picked up the story on their website, as did Scotland Today, and The Daily Telegraph.

The National Conference and the re-launch of the Charter For Action garnered coverage from British Satellite News, and you can see their report here.

October 31st

The statements by the three party leaders in support of the relaunched Charter For Action were big news on the BBC website, which also carried a TV interview with Phil Baldy, one of our networkers.

October 23rd

Andy Ripley, former England Rugby International player, talked to The Sunday Times about his life and diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Three letters were also printed arguing for PSA screening for prostate cancer and equality in health care. Read them here.

Ray WinstoneActor Ray Winstone spoke to the Sunday Times about his fundraising efforts on our behalf, urging readers not to "be embarrassed. No matter what your age, find out what the symptoms are, and check that you don’t have them." You can read the full interview online.
