Tour of Britain Launches
The route of the 2009 Tour of Britain was unveiled on 5th May at The London Transport Museum in Covent Garden. SweetSpot Group CEO Hugh Roberts and Tour of Britain Director Mick Bennett revealed the route to the packed auditorium, outlining key features that will mark this years biggest professional bike race and Britain’s biggest live sporting event.
Among the events announced will be the inaugural Tour Ride, a chance for members of the public to take on the challenges of a Tour of Britain stage for the first time ever whilst raising funds and awareness for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
This Etape du Tour style event will allow cyclists of all ages and abilities to measure themselves over exactly the same roads as the professionals will tackle during a stage of the 2009 Tour of Britain, with details of that stage to be unveiled soon.
To make sure you secure one of our limited places, pre-register at www.unitebycycling.org.uk. We will get ride and registration details to you as soon as they are available, so you won’t miss a thing.
Among the special guests in attendance at the launch was John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, who spoke about the charity’s new partnership with The Tour of Britain,
"This partnership represents a really exciting new chapter in the life of the Charity and a great opportunity for us to raise awareness and funds and gain support on a local and national level. The Charity is excited to be involved with the fast growing sport of cycling and the UK's premier cycle event. We are also working with the Tour of Britain to announce further mass participation events in the coming weeks. These events are designed to appeal to all levels of competitiveness, endurance and those just wanting fun and to be a part of The Tour of Britain experience."
The 2009 Tour of Britain will be the sixth running of the race, which continues to grow from strength to strength, attracting millions of spectators to the roadside and hundreds of thousands more via the daily highlights programme on ITV4.
The Prostate Cancer Charity is a proud and exclusive charity partner of The Tour of Britain. This partnership is a key element of a brand new initiative, 'Unite ByCycling', which has been set up to raise awareness of prostate cancer, as well as generate funds to enable the Charity to improve the lives of men affected by the disease, and their families.
