Meet a trustee

Profile of Su Sayer OBE

Su SayerSu Sayer is Chief Executive of the national charity, United Response (UR), which supports people with learning difficulties and mental health problems to have the things they want in their lives.

Su was recently presented with the Outstanding Achievement award at the Charity Awards 2003 for management excellence and her major contribution to the voluntary sector.

"I am delighted to be a Trustee for The Prostate Cancer Charity, not least because I think the work that is being done in raising awareness is essential. As a mother of two boys and Chief Executive of a charity that supports many men, I also hope to be able to promote the good work the charity does in an immediate way.

I was particularly drawn to this role, as a relative of mine has prostate cancer. As a woman, I hope that I can bring another dimension to the charity, namely that I can see the impact of my relative’s illness on his partner and his family. Women have an important role to play in supporting people through their illness and they may also play a vital part in assisting in early diagnosis.

At UR, we know that people with a learning difficulty often have their health needs ignored or attributed to their disability. I am looking forward to working with The Prostate Cancer Charity to make sure GPs and other professionals are properly informed and listen to all their patients, so that they can offer the correct advice and support to anyone who needs it."
