Meet a Trustee

Leslie Moffat is one of our longest serving trustees, having joined the board in the very early days of The Prostate Cancer Charity. By happy chance, he had been given a donation by some oil companies with instructions to put it towards research into prostate cancer. After making enquiries, Leslie was put in contact with Jonathan Waxman and offered the donation to us.

Experience and expertise

Leslie brings to the Trustees Board considerable know-how in this field. In addition to being a Consultant Urologist with Aberdeen Hospital Trust and a senior lecturer at Aberdeen University, he is a Fellow of both the Edinburgh and Glasgow College of Surgeons. And his interest in prostate cancer extends across many fields. For example, at the moment he’s looking at cost-effective screening programmes using his own model (based on the Scottish system) as a template that could be used across the UK. But as well as prevention, Leslie is committed to driving the search for better treatments and cures.

"We need to distinguish between the non-aggressive and aggressive forms of cancer and also to understand why hormone therapy can only hold the tumour in check for a certain period of time. This will allow us to develop more effective treatments."
