Meet a Trustee

Profile of Jude Bridge (written in 2003)

Jude Bridge has been a trustee for The Prostate Cancer Charity for almost a year now. As part of a move to strengthen the range of talents on the Charity’s Board, Jude was asked to stand for election because of the unique skills, experiences and perspectives she could offer the organisation.

Having developed a successful career in marketing, Jude is well placed to advise us on the best way to get key messages across to men and their families – for example, what prostate cancer is, who’s at risk and how men can protect themselves from the disease.

Jude tells us in her own words what it means to be involved with The Prostate Cancer Charity.

"My own parents died of cancer. So when I was first approached by The Prostate Cancer Charity, I was keen to help in whatever way I could.

Of course, what struck me straight away was how little I knew about prostate cancer. When I learnt that it affects as many as 1 in 13 men, I was shocked. I had no idea how prevalent the disease was. And as a wife and a mother – I have a five year old son and two daughters – I really felt I should know.

Since then, I’ve realised how scarce knowledge and understanding of prostate cancer is and I’ve put a great deal of thought into how I can add to the organisation. My career in marketing has enabled me to learn the best ways of communicating with all sorts of people. And I’m pleased to be able to use the skills I’ve developed to help the organisation get its message across as effectively as possible. Hopefully in this way, I can make a positive and lasting contribution to the fight against the disease."
