Caring for carers
Carers play a vital role in supporting those affected by prostate cancer, but studies show that they can sometimes feel distressed, anxious, depressed and alienated. In addition, side effects from the treatment
can lead to men relying even more heavily on their carers.
The project
Paul Sinfield’s project aims to improve the understanding of the needs and experiences of carers, exploring effective ways of offering support through consultations, interviews and focus groups.
Why we lent our support
Research has shown that carers themselves often need help to allow them to better support men with prostate cancer, so we felt it was important that new and effective ways of assisting carers are found.
Next steps
When his study is complete, Paul will publicise his results online, at appropriate conferences and in health journals. We will also give you updates in future editions of Vital. Further studies will then be able to build on this work by developing ways of offering practical support to carers.
