Clinical Decision
The Prostate Cancer Charity calls for better access to clinical nurse specialists
Clinical nurse specialists play an
essential role in the care and support
of prostate cancer patients yet there
is currently limited specialist training
in the UK for these key health care
professionals.
In order to tackle this issue, our
Health Services Liaison Manager,
Georgia Diebel has developed the first
two-day Masterclass programme for
nurses with a specialist interest in
prostate cancer. This takes place in April
at King’s College in London. We also
provide a confidential Helpline and
information resources to assist the NHS
in delivering vital support.

The Prostate Cancer Charity has called on the
Government and the NHS to double the number of
clinical nurse specialists working in prostate cancer.
PM encouraged to increase awareness
A petition from a supporter of The Prostate Cancer Charity has been sent to the Prime Minister asking him to take urgent steps to increase public awareness of prostate cancer, ensuring men understand the signs and symptoms and where they can turn for help and advice if they are worried.
NICE guidelines welcomed
New guidelines published by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for the care and treatment of men with prostate cancer have been broadly welcomed by The Prostate Cancer Charity. The guidelines are designed to clarify the effectiveness of various treatments and reduce the uncertainty that men diagnosed with the disease can feel. “Implementation of the guidelines is critical”, said John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, “men need accurate and timely information in order to make informed decisions about their treatment options”. The guidelines are predicted to spark dispute but improving the experience for men with prostate cancer is now a key priority. Debate arises because of the lack of evidence. This is why the Charity believes more research is needed.
