Funding process
It falls to our Research Advisory Committee to assess and make recommendations on which projects get our backing. Here’s how it works...
Every year we call for research proposals across four categories; basic, translational, clinical and psychosocial. We receive many applications but only have funds to support a small number of them.
Seeking a balanced view
All applicants for funding have to complete a detailed form, which is sent out to at least two experts in the field from a global panel who will be able to identify merit, recognise any inconsistencies or flaws in the project and whether the budget is reasonable.
This system also highlights unnecessary project duplication or a team’s poor track record and can also help identify projects that are following a line of research already found to be a dead end.
All of this information is then reviewed by our Research Advisory Committee, who will recommend to the Charity’s Board of Trustees which projects should receive funding.
