The future of research
The Prostate Cancer Charity’s work involves providing support and information to men with prostate cancer, their families and to the general public. We also fund scientific research to help us better understand the disease. In fact, since 1996, we’ve invested well over £3 million in prostate cancer research.
We’ve now grown to become the largest voluntary organisation focused on prostate cancer. And it’s our aim to lead the way in research. With this in mind, we thought it essential that we should have a clear strategy for the future of our work.
To help determine the best way forward, an independent review group consisting of leading scientists, representatives of the Department of Health and Medical Research Council and, importantly, men affected by prostate cancer was set up. And from this, our future strategy was born.
There are many things that we’d like to achieve over the next few years in the research field to enable us to give hope to future generations. Below, I’ve set out some of our key aims. But of course, if you’d like more detailed information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me on 020 8222 7622.
The Prostate Cancer Charity is rapidly building its position as a leader of research. We have ambitious plans for the future but we need you to give us your continued support. Together, our aim is to understand prostate cancer, develop more effective treatments and one day, hopefully find a cure.

Our new research strategy
To invest £1 million in new research grants, every year for the next five years, rising to nearly £2 million a year by 2008.
To set up an advisory committee, drawn from leading UK prostate cancer researchers, to advise the charity on its research decisions.
To make sure that we involve people affected by prostate cancer in decisions we make about research and explain what this research means in ways that are easily understood by our supporters.
