Our Services in Scotland
We are running new services in the West of Scotland - one to one support for people directly affected by prostate cancer, and raising awareness of prostate cancer in the community. These services are run by people who have all been directly affected by prostate cancer. Are you someone directly affected by prostate cancer?
Would you like to talk to someone who knows what you’re going through? We can put you in touch with one of our volunteers who has personal experience of prostate cancer and who has been trained to listen and offer support. All of our volunteers are people who have been directly affected by prostate cancer, men with cancer, wives, partners or family members.
We will aim to match you with someone who has had a similar experience to you. This one to one support is available to men with prostate cancer, wives, partners or families who are based in the West of Scotland. If you would like to access this support then please contact Suzy.
Are you interested in having a speaker or holding an information session on Prostate Cancer?
Every year in Scotland over 2000 men are diagnosed and around 800 men die of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in Scotland.
The results of a recent poll done for The Prostate Cancer Charity showed that of people surveyed in Scotland:
- Nearly 90% did not know what the prostate does
- Two thirds did not know where the prostate is located in the body
- A third did not know that only men have a prostate
Our volunteers are all people who have been directly affected by prostate cancer. They are available to make presentations about prostate cancer and The Prostate Cancer Charity to local groups or clubs, for example Rotary, golf clubs, lunch clubs or to workplaces.
The charity funds a Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse based at Falkirk Infirmary who is also available to run information sessions for health professionals. Our volunteers can also talk to groups of health professionals about their personal experience of prostate cancer.
We also have a Prostate Cancer information stand and we are available to attend local health awareness events with the Charity's stand and literature.
