Services in Scotland
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Scotland. 2,500 men are diagnosed with the disease every year, and shockingly 2 men die every day from prostate cancer.
Our Services
In Scotland, the Charity is known as The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland. We have had a base in Glasgow since 2006. You can access all of the Charity’s support and information services in Scotland. These are:
- Our publications
- Our freephone Helpline
- Telephone based peer support for people affected by prostate cancer
- Working with health professionals
Awareness Service
As well as promoting access to our support and information services which are available across the UK, in west and central Scotland, The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland runs an outreach awareness service which aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer in the community. This service is run by our trained volunteers who are all people who have been directly affected by prostate cancer. They are available to give talks about prostate cancer to local groups or clubs, for example Rotary, golf clubs, lunch clubs or workplaces. We also have a prostate cancer information stand and we are available to attend local health awareness events with the Charity's stand and literature.
Please get in touch with us if you are interested in holding a session on prostate cancer, or are holding an event at which The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland could usefully get involved. You might also be interested in Prostate Cancer Awareness Month which runs in March every year.
Research
The Prostate Cancer Charity's research programme focuses solely on research into prostate cancer. Each year we run a competitive scientific grants programme, open to researchers across the whole of the UK. To date we have invested over seven million pounds to support research. We are currently supporting three research projects in Scotland. Visit our research pages for more information on our research programme. We also sit on the Cancer Care Research Centre's prostate cancer advisory group, which is based at Stirling.
Getting Involved
You can also get involved in our work in Scotland in a range of ways, including: volunteering to help raise awareness of prostate cancer; providing telephone based support to people affected by prostate cancer; joining Prostate Cancer Voices, a network of people affected by prostate cancer who contribute their views, opinions and experiences to influence the development of the Charity’s services and campaigning; by becoming a fundraiser or by talking to the media.
