Advisory Group
The Prostate Cancer Advisory Group (PCAG), set up in 2003, has a broad remit to advise on all aspects of Government health policy on prostate cancer.
The full membership of PCAG includes representatives of the Department of Health, health professionals, researchers and the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action.
The Prostate Cancer Advisory Group meets twice a year and has so far considered a broad range of topics including:
- The development of UK Prostate Link - an ‘intelligent signposting system’ for members of the public, health professionals and policy makers pointing to internet-based information on all aspects of prostate cancer. This project is jointly funded by the Department of Health and members of the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action
- Public awareness campaign - proposals are being developed for a pilot awareness-raising campaign - again funded jointly by the Department of Health and members of the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action Group
- Prostate cancer treatment - given the variability of prostate cancer treatment approaches across the country, the development of appropriate standards is necessary. A sub-group of PCAG has being set up to consider prostate cancer treatment issues, particularly in the first instance, multi-disciplinary team training
- Review of research developments
- Waiting times
- Pace of implementation of Improving Outcomes Guidelines
- Development of new National Institute of Clinical Excellence guidelines on aspects of prostate cancer treatment
- Review of the National Audit Office report on the NHS experience of patients of four cancer types - prostate, breast, colon and lung - ‘Tackling Cancer: Improving the Patient Journey’
- Evaluation of the Prostate Cancer Risk Management Programme
Brief updates on these areas of work will be included on this website as progress is made.
