Trustees and Patrons

John Wotherspoon

Joined the Charity in 2005. Retired (2002). Formerly Chairman and Managing Director of Aspen Healthcare Limited, an acute care private hospital group in the London region, employing 480 people. In 1998 he succeeded in carrying out a management buyout of the company in partnership with a venture capitalist (Electra Fleming). The company was subsequently sold to United Surgical Partners Inc. in 2000. Following the buyout he was responsible for developing and building a stand alone private Oncology Centre at the Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon , with fully equipped Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy departments, one of only three such units in the private sector at that time.

Prior to the above appointment he was Chief Financial Officer of the Cromwell Hospital, a leading acute care private hospital in central London and was closely involved in the establishment of several pioneering clinical programmes including in-vitro fertilisation (with Prof Ian Craft) and liver transplants (with Prof Roger Williams).
